At InterBee, Barco Silex, Altera and Spinnaker Systems present a JPEG 2000
Video over IP reference design tailored to the needs of the broadcast
market. More than a simple alternative to JPEG 2000 ASSPs, the reference
design offers an integrated solution for the capture, JPEG 2000 encoding and
transport over IP of high-quality HD video signals. Applications of the Video over IP reference design range from low-cost
single channel to complex high-frame rate multi-channel JPEG 2000
encoder/decoders. Target devices are high performance, low power and low
cost FPGAs, including Altera’s latest Stratix(r) IV GX and Arria(r) II GX
devices. Barco’s broadcast-oriented JPEG 2000 IP cores interface directly with video
signals to provide high-quality JPEG 2000 encoding/decoding at all HD and SD
resolutions. These IP cores, validated by broadcast market makers, are
highly configurable to encompass a broad range of applications in both
lossless and lossy compression modes. Typical bit-rate configurations are
200Mbps, 400Mbps, 800Mbps and 1+ Gbps. Both 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 chroma
sub-sampling modes are supported with up to 12-bits per sample. Barco Silex's JPEG 2000 IP cores are exclusively distributed in Japan by
