Madam Butterfly 3D
Auro 11.1 played a starring role in select showings of the RealD and Royal Opera House production of “Madam Butterfly 3D”. Showcasing a cinema version of the famous opera by Puccini captured from live performances at Covent Garden, London, Auro 11.1 provided an exceptionally immersive 3D audio experience to complement RealD’s 3D cinema technology.
“’Madam Butterfly 3D’ leverages the immersive power of RealD 3D so audiences feel as if they are in the audience at the famed Royal Opera House, creating a truly differentiated theatrical experience,” said Joseph Peixoto, President, Worldwide Cinema from RealD. “Adding Auro 11.1 furthers the audience immersion through an audio experience that complements the lifelike 3D visuals on screen.”
A co-production from RealD and London’s Royal Opera House, Madam Butterfly 3D tells the dramatic and heart-rending tale of Cio-Cio-San, an innocent, loyal and ultimately betrayed woman. Pinkerton, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, contracts a marriage to this beautiful Japanese geisha without any commitment on his part. Puccini was moved by the story of Pinkerton’s carelessness and its devastating effects, originally told in a successful novel and play, and composed music of rare and sensual beauty for his opera Madam Butterfly. The score shows the influence of authentic Japanese songs, enhanced by Puccini’s own Italianate passion.
