Commissioned on behalf of Tenga, a personal care products manufacturer, the show enlivened the exterior façade with a diverse array of imagery which incorporated the building’s unique angles, and even its windows, into the design. To accomplish this display, Pearl utilized 18 Barco FLM HD20 projectors in a 2x3 configuration to cover six visual zones with a seamless panorama of imagery.
The sophisticated convergence capabilities of the FLM HD20 projectors were essential to projecting across the multi-dimensional shape of the building. "Barco’s optics hold on extremely tight when converging projectors so we can maintain a flawless, edge-blended image surface," commented AJ Freysteinson, Systems Designer/Operator for Pearl Media Productions.
As with any outdoor exhibition in New York City, ambient light is always a challenge. "The high brightness of Barco projectors enables us to maintain the brilliant color and sharp contrast of the graphics despite lower Manhattan’s highly illuminated environment," commented Scott Justis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Pearl Media Productions.
Barco is on the forefront of the projection mapping trend, having recently participated in numerous installations including the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, the UK launch of the Nokia Lumia cell phone, and Red Bull’s Mind Meld show at the 2012 Ultra Music Festival.
