What happens when a singer / musician / actor / film director makes plans for his first big arena tour? Plan B – real name Ben Drew –, one of Britain's most imaginative artistic talents, drew on the know-how of Barco partner XL Video to make his UK tour an innovative, provocative and mind-blowing visual experience.
Together, they chose a hard- and software solution which gave the stage an epic cinematic appearance. It featured a 15m wide upstage projection screen, flanked by two three-sided 3D scenic towers which were also used as projection surfaces, and several LED screens at floor level. The different video surfaces combined to make a visually intense environment which fused into the music.
The technology behind the projection was Barco’s: one of Barco’s award-winning HDQ-2K40 40K projectors was used to front project onto the main screen, while a second HDQ-2K40 covered the front of both towers. The inside surfaces of the towers were each covered by a Barco FLM HD-20 projector rigged in the opposite tower and the outside was fed by two Barco FLM R-12s. A Barco Catalyst™ media server was used to store the video content and manage the screen. For the London, Manchester and Birmingham shows, XL’s new HD Barco HDF-W26 projectors ensured super bright, sharp images on the side screens.
“This was not just a concert; you were at the theatre watching a play as well as at the cinema watching a film. The dynamics of the backdrop were well thought-out and technically admirable,” read one of the many positive reviews of the tour.(source: entertainmentwise.com)
