The future of networked visualization

The future of networked visualization
Over the last 15 years, we’ve become accustomed to the freedom and flexibility networks offer. We share files among different sites of the enterprise – or with anyone in the world – and it all feels ‘normal’. The AV world has been lagging somewhat behind, but now all of the elements for a networked visualization revolution are becoming available. Barco is pioneering this evolution, developing higher quality systems that are more user-friendly and secure and easy to service.

The solution? Ethernet

Would anybody rewire their whole house to install a new computer? Of course not, that’s absurd. But that is exactly what the professional AV world has been doing. A lot of systems still use a dedicated cabling system that is bound to be outdated in about five years. The only logical thing to do is to stick with an established standard: Ethernet.

“People are usually thinking of the media layers when they talk about standardization,” says Ronny Dewaele, Director Technology Center at Barco. “But ideally, you would have a totally common structure and only the application layer would depend on the manufacturer. For customers, this would be a lot more cost-effective.”
