3D sound
We are proud to announce that our 3D cinema sound format, Auro 11.1 is currently in the running to get a Technical Achievement Award 2012 from the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) in the category ‘post-production’. Currently deployed in over 50 installations worldwide and with an increasing number of directors embracing the format, this award nomination by cinema audio experts further illustrates that Auro 11.1 is the future of cinematic sound. The winners will be announced tomorrow at the 49th Annual CAS Awards dinner in Los Angeles. Fingers crossed!

‘Rise of the Guardians’ also selected

During this dinner, the winners of a CAS Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2012 will be announced as well. These awards reflect the best work in sound mixing for motion pictures and television as determined by the members of the Cinema Audio Society. DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Rise of the Guardians’ is nominated for an award in the category ‘Motion Pictures – Animated’. We wish to congratulate DreamWorks Animation, Richard King and the entire sound department of the movie on their nomination! Break a leg!

Movies mixed in Auro 11.1

Rise of the Guardians’ was the first DreamWorks Animation movie mixed in Barco’s 3D sound. Barco and DreamWorks Animation recently forged an alliance in which their upcoming feature films will be mixed in the Auro 11.1 sound format. For 2013, four movies are already confirmed to be mixed in Auro 11.1, including ‘The Croods’ and ‘Turbo’ from DreamWorks Animation.

Three layers of sound

Developed by Auro Technologies and powered by Barco, Auro 11.1 turns conventional cinema audio into a fully immersive 3D sound experience, with sounds coming from all around and above the listener, provided by three layers – surround, height and overhead – of sound.
