Nursing students often find it difficult to apply their theoretical know-how in a real-life hospital setting. In the KATHO Simulation Lab, every student has the opportunity to gain experience and learn from mistakes without risk to patients. The Belgian University College has two simulation rooms, both featuring hi-tech mannequins that are capable of realistic physiologic responses, like respiration, pulses, heart sounds, breath sounds, urinary output, etc.. The dummies can simulate symptoms, diseases and conditions that nurses are likely to see in a real care setting. They can even communicate with the students, responding to questions during the simulation exercise. As the world’s No. 1 medical display provider, Barco was proud to help equip KATHO’s innovative simulation rooms with its advanced technology. The Lab features two Barco JAOTech Smart Terminals with embedded touchscreens for patient entertainment and communication, thus introducing nursing students to the smart hospital of the future.
