Belgacom upgrades Barco video wall to optimize data visualization

Dealing with bandwidth issues, preventing network breakdowns, guaranteeing 24/7 availability of the telecommunications network: it is all part of the daily business at Belgacom’s Network Operations Center. To monitor this data traffic more efficiently and tackle emerging challenges, Belgacom recently installed Barco’s TransForm N platform. Replacing the lamps by LEDs has helped cut costs.

Since 2005, Belgacom has been monitoring all the telephone, Internet and – later - digital TV traffic on its Barco video wall. Faced with spectacularly increased network traffic these last few years, the company decided to upgrade their system. Barco’s newly installed TransForm N platform guarantees them smooth and secure transfer of video, images and data between the various workstations.

“Because our Barco video wall is now part of a network centralized platform, we can solve issues even before they can do any harm,” explained Peter Vandermaesen, Director ICT Service Desk at Belgacom. “Within seconds, everybody has a crystal-clear overview of the status of the network. It enables us to collaborate much more efficiently.”

By also replacing the video wall lamps by LEDs, Belgacom cut their maintenance costs, while boosting its image of an eco-friendly company. “Barco was the only one who could ensure a full integration, delivering both soft- and hardware,” said Gorik Everaet, Incident Manager at Belgacom. “This allowed us to decrease the implementation time, with minimal disruption to the existing installation.”
