Co-organized by the Russian Orthodox Church, The City of Moscow and the Ministry of Culture, the Romanov exhibit was inaugurated on 4 November last. Both the setting and the exhibition itself were ambitious. The Moscow Manege is the most prestigious exhibition space in Moscow. The exhibit incorporated the latest technologies, including touchscreen tables and 3D video projections. Barco’s HDQ-2K40 projectors had a major role to play in the projection mapping part.
Up to the challenge
CTC-Capital, one of Russia’s leading AV experts, helped bring the history alive in 3D: three high-bright Barco HDQ-2K40 projectors displayed a picture of all the Russian tsars from the House of the Romanovs (1613 – 1917) on a giant 7 X 30m screen. Victor Chetverev, General Director of CTC-Capital: “We chose the HDQ-2K40 projectors on account of their high brightness (40,000 ANSI lumens) and high resolution. One of the technical challenges was to ensure a trouble-free operation of the projectors for 12 hours a day over four weeks. The Barco projectors proved to be up to challenge”.
The feedback? The visitors were so enthusiastic about this Barco-powered installation that social media sites abounded with pictures of the tsars in 3D. The exhibition overall was so successful that it had to be extended twice and will soon be touring other Russian cities.
