On 31 December last, the clock tower in the middle of the Meichuan shopping plaza in Shanghai (China) was the canvas for a unique 3D-projection mapping. Together with local integration partner Shanghai LEFEDV Showtech, Barco pulled off an impressive piece of hi-tech bravado. Twenty Barco FLM-HD20 projectors were used to create an unforgettable, interactive 3D-light show on all four sides of the tower.
The 100meter-tall clock tower in the Meichuan shopping plaza was turned into a lively 3D-extravaganza. The project was the first-ever outdoor projection mapping in China to cover all four sides of one building in a seamless display. To achieve this, Barco cooperated closely with its local integration partner, covering the entire project cycle, from design to on-site support.
A celebration in style
Twenty of Barco’s FLM-HD20, 20,000 lumen projectors were set up on the rooftops and terraces of surrounding buildings. Advanced image processing, including image blending, rendering and correction, helped mix the individual signals into one impressive 360°-display. Despite challenging conditions, including cold temperatures and a luminous environment, the Barco solutions lived up to their world-class reputation.
Hundreds of people gathered in the square to witness the visual feast on New Year’s Eve. The 3D spectacle brought the characteristic architecture of the building to life in an interplay of colors, animations and music. Particularly impressive was the interactive nature of the projections, as images and colors changed in response to the shouts of the audience.
