Barco to consolidate its Georgia operations. Barco announces plans to expand its Duluth, Georgia facility and relocate its Kennesaw, Georgia businesses in the Duluth complex
Barco announces today plans for expansion at one of its major North American facilities. With this expansion, Barco will consolidate all Barco's Georgia operations into one facility for increased efficiency and cooperation among associates, and consequently offer better service to its U.S.-based customers. Construction will begin soon on the third phase of Barco's building complex located in Duluth, Georgia, finishing an additional 37,000 square feet to allow for relocation of its Kennesaw, Georgia operations. The move is scheduled to be completed by March 1st, 2006.
Barco’s first activities in Georgia began in 1985, when they located their Projection business in a rented facility near Kennesaw, Georgia. In 1990, Barco made the acquisition of Chromatics, Inc., a company located in Tucker, Georgia. Chromatics was merged with Barco’s Belgium-based Avionics and Defense business, as a part of the BarcoView division. In 1998, due to rapid growth from its many contracts in the defense, medical and air traffic control markets, the BarcoView operations were moved from Tucker to Duluth, Georgia, into a newly Barco-built and owned facility. From then onwards, this facility has become the main location for all BarcoView sales, marketing, engineering and manufacturing activities in North America.
“Consolidation of our Georgia operations will enable Barco to increase efficiency as well as to capitalize on existing synergies and strategic cooperation between the BarcoView and Barco Visual Solutions market groups.” says Dave Scott, President Barco North America. “The Duluth location is an extremely functional facility located on 12 acres of land Barco owns in the prestigious Sugarloaf Industrial Park, which will make a very nice home for our Kennesaw associates. Today, considerable time is spent traveling the 45 miles between buildings for meetings and logistics which, with Atlanta’s traffic patterns today, wastes time and causes much frustration to our employees and customers who must make the trip in the normal course of business. With this relocation plan, we will also move part of our Barco Events projector repair operation to Barco’s Sacramento, California location, giving our customers better service coverage nationwide.”
Located just off major interstate highway I-85, the Duluth, Georgia facility will be more accessible for Barco’s customers, who typically arrive via the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport located south of the city, on I-85. Completion of construction at the Duluth facility will bring the total working space to just over 185,000 square feet. With even further room for expansion at the Barco Sugarloaf complex, the Barco Duluth facility now is Barco’s largest site for sales and marketing, engineering design, and electronic manufacturing in North America.
