Barco adds 19” high-bright flat display to its MRFD family
New high-bright MRFD 248HB offers unequalled brightness in high ambient light conditions
SEA-AIR-SPACE, WASHINGTON D.C., USA, 6 April 2004 – On the occasion of Sea-Air-Space 2004 Barco is proud to unveil the MRFD 248HB, the latest member of its family of Modular Rugged Flat Displays. The MRFD 248HB has been specifically developed for operation in demanding high ambient light conditions and is fully qualified for use in the harshest military environments, including rotary wing platforms. Furthermore, the MRFD 248HB can be equipped with an advanced NVIS option, designed to provide operators with a night vision goggle compatible display solution for dark night conditions.
Barco’s new MRFD 248HB display is a member of the MRFD family. It adopts the MRFD’s smart modular architecture, combining a Rugged Display Module (RDM) with a high-performance Display Control Module (DCM), connected by a single cable, the Barco Intermodule Link (BIL). Thanks to this split design, the DCM can be placed in a remote location, requiring less space.
The MRFD’s Display Module features a bright 19” liquid crystal display with a resolution of 1280 x 1024. Thanks to its exceptional high brightness and contrast, the display offers unprecedented performance in high ambient light conditions. The unit’s front bonded optical stack ensures optimum optical performance at all times and offers a truly rugged, condensation-free visualization solution under all conditions. Moreover, the MRFD is equipped with Automatic Phase Adjust technology, offering clear and sharp images over time. Optionally, the MRFD 248HB can be equipped with Barco’s patented LCD Flicker Compensation solution, guaranteeing flicker-free images at all times.
The integrated Display Control Module can be configured to meet specific application requirements (e.g. multiple analog or digital video inputs, direct camera input). Thanks to its powerful mixing functionality, the MRFD 248HB provides a total solution for image overlay and mixing, with no need for separate video mixing cards to be installed at the host computer. Furthermore, the MRFD 248HB features a Built-in Test (BIT) functionality, which assists users in fault detection.

The first MRFD 248HB unit will be unveiled on the show floor at Sea-Air-Space.
