Barco announces range of E-Cinema projectors at Showest 2005 in Las Vegas.

Kuurne, Belgium. March 11th, 2005. To respond to the increased interest of theatre owners to display alternative content and digital advertising, Barco Digital Cinema introduces four (4) DLPTM projectors with different brightness to fit small as well as large theatres.

Barco Digital Cinema introduces four high-end DLP™  projectors (Barco RLM H5, Barco RLM R6+, Barco SLM R9+ and Barco SLM R12+) enabling theatre owners to display digital advertising and alternative content. Incorporating the latest generation of 3 chip DLP™ technology, Barco’s E-Cinema range provides images of exceptional color depth, contrast and resolution (1400 x 1050 native for SLM Series and RLM R6+). Brightness levels vary from 4500 ANSI lumens (RLM H5) up to 11500 ANSI lumens (SLM R12+) to be able to fit any size of theatre.

HD source compatibility is crucial for alternative content and advertising applications to be able to connect a range of digital sources. Barco E-Cinema Projector series include a wide range of inputs to be able to connect almost any digital source. Connections like SDI and HDSDI come standard with the RLM series.
Designed with Total Cost of Ownership in mind, the projectors are based on DLP™  technology, and include lamps with long lifetime: typical lamp lifetime of 1000 Hrs for RLM Series, 1250 Hrs for SLM R9+ and 800 Hrs for SLM R12+. The RLM Series and the SLM R9+ come with sealed DLPTM core for better dust protection. Lenses are intercompatible on the Barco E-cinema Series, resulting in a future proof platform for alternative content and advertising.

More and more theatres are looking for a digital pre-show because of the flexibility of digital advertising. As content can be received via broadband or hard disk, scheduling of advertising can be done at the very last moment, enabling advertising companies to increase the effectiveness of their campaign, by targeting their message even more towards the right audience. It also gives the opportunity for new, local advertisers to start focused regional advertising. All this will lead to an increased revenue stream for the theatre owner.

Further, more and more cinema owners are positioning themselves as multi-purpose theaters to host business seminars, special interest programs and to share live sports events and music concerts with several audiences at multiple locations. This way the theatre owner can expand business by offering a full program during off-peak hours.

Barco’s 3-chip DLP™  E-Cinema projectors allow for both - advertising and alternative content - to be screened in a qualitative way. The Barco RLM H5 will be showcased at Showest, Barco booth, 1927.
