BARCO Awarded Mobile Approach Control
London, UK - BarcoView, LLC has been awarded a contract by the Gilfillan Radar Group of ITT Industries, Systems Division, Van Nuys, California. BarcoView, LLC will supply 20.1" FD 251 Flat Panel Displays and 12.1" Barco Vector Rugged Flat Panel Displays in support of the Mobile Approach Control System (MACS) program. A touch screen is built into the 12.1" displays. The total value with follow-on orders is in excess of 3 Million USD over a three-year period.
MACS will enable the Air Combat Command (USAF) and the Air National Guard to perform their mission requirements anywhere in the world on short notice. The highly mobile system consists of a digital Air Surveillance Radar and Operations Subsystem, housed in separate tactical shelters. The MACS inters with Precision Approach Radar, that is used to guide aircraft to a safe landing in marginal weather conditions. Due to the remote and short-notice nature of the deployments, MACS must withstand the environmental, handling, and operational conditions encountered.Barco's 20.1" FD 251 is a rugged flat panel, protected by a solid mechanical structure, designed for operation in difficult environmental conditions. The Active Matrix LCD supports different resolutions from VGA to SXGA through upscaling. This direct 19" rack-mountable series includes an internal database for multiple scanning sets. Gilfillan selected the FD 251 because of its unique rack-mountable concept and its acceptance of both video and graphics signals.Chris Lippens, Market Director of Vetronics states: "The Barco Vector 12.1" Display System combines a Video Control Module with a Panel Module (display). It features a lightweight housing that has been ruggedized to MIL-STD-810. Gilfillan selected the Barco 12.1" Flat Panel Display for its flexibility in interfacing with various sensor systems, its specific HMI concept, and for its split design. The 12.1" Display System allows easy integration into confined spaces and consoles. The Video Control Module processes the video and RGB signals and inserts programmable characters and symbols (overlays)."
