BARCO Awarded USD 2.2 Million Follow-on Order for U.S. Navy’s AN/UYQ-70 Program

EURONAVAL, LE BOURGET, FRANCE, 26 October, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems has been awarded a USD 2.2 million follow-on order for high performance graphics controllers, video controllers, and rugged color displays by the Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems, Eagan, Minnesota / DRS Laurel Technologies, Johnstown, Pennsylvania team for the production of the U.S. Navy’s AN/UYQ-70 surface, subsurface, and airborne display consoles.
BARCO will be supplying Lockheed Martin’s team mate, DRS Laurel Technologies, with a combination of high-performance IVS4100 VME graphics controllers and live video frame grabbers, which provide the unique capability of simultaneous high performance graphics, real-time live video and radar video. The UYQ-70 controller configuration consists of 12 memory planes for overlay graphics, 12 memory planes for underlay graphics with integrated radar and live video windows.

The BARCO 19” RGN 651 rugged color displays utilized for the AN/UYQ-70 consoles have a special magnetic immunity system (MIS), which enables the monitors to operate within strong magnetic fields. Displays aboard both surface ships and submarines are impacted by the earth’s magnetic fields, which distorts the display colors as the ship changes directions. The BARCO MIS system passively and actively cancels the interference via a compensating magnetic field.

DRS will begin accepting delivery of the BARCO graphics and video controllers, and rugged color displays in the December 1998 timeframe.
