BARCO Chosen by Raytheon for U.S. Navy’s Combat Control System MK-2 Common Display Console

WASHINGTON, DC, March 31, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems has been selected by Raytheon Systems Company, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, to supply 122 rugged 19 inch color displays for the Block 1C upgrade to the Combat Control System (CCS) MK-2 Common Display Consoles for U.S. Navy submarines. Raytheon will integrate the BARCO MPRD 9651 rugged monitor into the CCS MK-2 common display console, which is Raytheon’s latest addition to its submarine display systems family.
The BARCO MPRD 9651 display was chosen by Raytheon because it is a rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) monitor, being able to meet several critical design factors, such as a second RGB input capability, and harsh shipboard environmental requirements. The MPRD 9651 is capable of meeting a very extensive 60G shock specification and has a unique magnetic immunity system (MIS) that enables the monitor to operate in a strong magnetic environment of up to 5 gauss. A special MIS bezel surrounds and protects the display from image distortion from the earth’s magnetic fields. BARCO is also providing the Navy with 8 customized illuminated indicators on the front of the monitor bezel.

The CCS MK-2 Common Display Console is scheduled to be installed in the SSN 688 and SSN 688I class submarines including the U.S. Navy’s Los Angeles and Trident submarines.

Raytheon Electronic Systems will begin accepting delivery of the BARCO MPRD rugged displays during the second quarter of 1998.
