BARCO Chosen by Swisscontrol for ADAPT System Upgrade
ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY, October 24, 2000 -- BarcoView has been chosen by Swisscontrol to provide sixty-eight high-performance PCI graphics controllers for Switzerland's ADAPT Air Traffic Control System upgrade for the control centers in Zurich and Geneva. The New ADAPT system will replace VME-based workstations with state-of-the-art PCI-based systems configured with the BARCO PVS 5600 controller, a HP host CPU driving a Sony 20" x 20" high-resolution color display.
The BARCO PVS 5600 graphics controller was selected by Swisscontrol after intensive competitive benchmark testing at multiple sites in North America and Switzerland, whereby the PVS 5600 controller was deemed technically superior.
The BARCO PVS 5600 is a high-performance single-slot 2048 x 2048 PCI graphics controller that supports up to three independent 8-bit color planes: overlay, underlay and super overlay. The PVS 5600 is supported with X11R6 software for UNIX systems and drivers for Windows NT 4.0. Other workstations supported, besides the HP host, include Pentium, Sun UltraSPARC, IBM PowerPC, IntelPC and COMPAQ CPU's.
A partial shipment of 30 BARCO PVS 5600 controllers will be delivered to Swisscontrol by the end of 4th quarter 2000 with the remaining 38 boards to be delivered by January 2001.
