BARCO Introduces 20.1" Rugged LCD Thin Client for Network-Centric Computing
LE BOURGET, FRANCE - At this year's Paris Air Show (16-24 June), BarcoView is introducing a new rugged display concept for network-centric computing. Known as the RTC 251 Thin Client family, this concept features a traditional server-client computer network architecture in which all application processing is done at a (dual- or multiple-redundant) central computer.
Barco's rugged Thin Client family integrates the latest LCD technology, computing capabilities and expansion options into a new generation of display products for network-centric computing applications. The modular approach of the Thin Client allows for future technology upgrades and offers platform flexibility for application-specific requirements, both for input/output (through customisable I/O panel) and processing techniques. This approach incorporates an Application-Specific Expansion Slot (ASES), allowing for mission-specific customisation, future functionality expansion or technology upgrades. With the Thin Client's application-independent working positions, cost of ownership can be drastically reduced and flexibility greatly improved.Barco's family of Thin Client LCD displays includes various configurations, suited for a wide range of environmental conditions. The TC 251 is a rugged Thin Client for operation in difficult environments. The RTC 251 offers a COTS MIL-tailored Thin Client with superior ruggedization for use in extremely harsh conditions.Danny Sergeant, General Manager of BarcoView's Command & Control Int'l division: " We are convinced that there will be a market for the Thin Client concept because it will greatly reduce the operational costs for onboard networks. Hardware and software upgrades can be performed from one central location rather than having network administrators attend to all individual stations. The concept would be applicable to mission systems in surveillance aircraft, to networked computing systems on-board naval ships, and to Command & Control information systems in military headquarters or command posts".
