BARCO Introduces Avionics Family Concept
FARNBOROUGH, UK, 10 September, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems launches its Avionics Family Concept for both civil and military airborne applications at the Farnborough 1998 Exhibition. BARCO now offers an extensive range of Control Display and Management Systems, and Multi-Function Displays, which are both based on the principles of open and modular architecture.
BARCO’s Avionics Family Concept focuses on the three major parts of the cockpit-man-machine interfacing: the Control Display and Management System (CDMS), the Intelligent Multi-Function Display (MFD) and the Dumb Cockpit Head Down Display (CHDD).
BARCO’s Control Display and Management System (CDMS) is a range of compact lightweight Control Display and Management Units, with a sunlight-readable 3”x4” Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display. AMLCD technology provides high brightness, excellent contrast, and reduced volume with low power consumption. NVIS-B and NVIS-A are optional. Different sizes of keyboard panels will be available, allowing the CDMS to fit into various avionics architectures for both new and retrofit aircraft.
BARCO’s Multi-Function Primary Flight Instrumentation Display, MFD 6.8, is a portrait display with a sunlight-readable 6”x8” Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display. AMLCD technology provides high brightness, excellent contrast and reduced volume with low power consumption. Various bezel options are available, allowing the MFD 6.8 to fit into various avionics architectures. The graphics processor offers full greyscale and anti-aliasing.
Both the CDMS and MFD are designed for conduction and forced air cooling.
The architecture is open and modular, allowing BARCO to adapt the functionality to individual customer requirements. Commonality of modules for the CDMS and the MFD allows a logistic cost reduction.
The Avionics Processing Unit houses all the boards such as high-end graphics controllers, ARINC 429, ARINC 629, MIL-Std-1553, synchro’s, discretes, analogue interfacing, Video RS-170, PCMCIA Dataloader. Several sizes for the CDU keybord panel are available. The MFD sizes BARCO offers are 3”x4”, 4”x5”, and 6”x8”.
BARCO Display Systems is a proud supplier of airborne products for the C-130 J, C-130 H, Cougar, Gazelle, Lynx, F-16, Nimrod and P3 Orion.
