BARCO Introduces Tellar for ATC Display Recording
WASHINGTON, D.C. - At this year's ATCA exhibition, BarcoView launches Tellar, its UNIX-based display record and playback archiving system, featuring recording technology pioneered by BarcoView. BarcoView has developed Tellar for the improvement of air safety, support of ATC system development, and air traffic controller training.
With Tellar, BarcoView has taken a software approach to display recording that provides the functional equivalent of a video recorder. Drawing commands used to produce screen images are digitally recorded and archived. Recording drawing commands dramatically reduces the equipment expense and data storage requirements compared to traditional video recording.Barco's Tellar allows the continuous recording of multiple operational display positions. In an ATC center, archiving the recordings is performed on one or more dedicated workstations using removable tape media. Playback of the archived information from any workstation is accessible for any desired time interval, and the recordings can be viewed and analyzed at any workstation console, or offline. Playback is simple to use and can be synchronized to a voice playback system. As an important component of ATC systems, Barco's Tellar can promote safety, maintenance and operator training. Tellar provides the equivalent function of an airplane "black box." From the displayed images, ATC operators can retrace the flight pattern history of any aircraft in event of contact loss.Tellar allows post analysis of software application problems, and the reproduction of technical problems with the drawing sub-system. Moreover, it is a superb tool for ATC controller training, which enables supervisors to monitor, in real time, the display of any operator system from another console. The system can also record student responses and techniques for review.
