BARCO Introduces the C5 Series of User-Configurable Rugged Display Consoles
WASHINGTON, DC, April 18, 2000 -- At this year’s Sea Air Space Exhibition, April 18-20, BARCO Display Systems premieres a totally new integrated visualization concept, the C5 Series of rugged consoles. The Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) approach of the C5 series combines BARCO’s unique manufacturing capabilities, ruggedization expertise and customer support into a total visualization solution. The C5 series (Command Control Communication Console Configuration) integrates BARCO’s key components, high-performance graphics controllers and high-resolution rugged LCD displays, into an ergonomically designed rugged chassis.
The standard, modular hardware and software approach of the C5 console enables system integrators to realize economies of scale, and reduce the console development cycle. Integrators can leverage from BARCO’s rugged visualization design expertise to fully concentrate on bringing value-added benefits to their customers.
The flexible design of the C5 allows users to select either a single or dual head configuration from a full range of BARCO’s LCD displays and VME or PCI board-level graphics/video/radar controllers. The compact packaging of the BARCO C5 console includes a tiltable operator desk with a keyboard and trackball combined with the displays and processors. The folding operator desk of the C5 enables it to be utilized in space-restricted areas. Users can also choose from an optional back-lit keyboard, joystick, and/or a programmable touch input device.
The C5 rugged chassis functions as a cocoon and protects electronics from severe environmental conditions. The console absorbs shocks and with an integrated thermal conditioning system, consisting of a controller, anti-condensation heater and cooling fans, protects electronics from extreme temperatures and quickly renders the console operational on start-up. Furthermore, an extensive Built-In-Testing protects the system’s electronics by constantly monitoring their status and environment.
The consoles have been designed and manufactured in BARCO’s tradition of stringent design, extensive configuration control, severe environmental testing and fully controlled production processes. BARCO’s C5 series of consoles are ideal for critical defense applications in harsh environmental conditions and is designed to meet a wide variety of temperature, humidity, vibration, and shock specifications such as those associated with ships, submarines, reconnaissance aircraft and mobile ground shelters.
The new C5 console was recently selected for Boeing’s Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) program. .
