BARCO Introduces VECTOR Observation & Visualization Display System for Vetronics Applications

CHERTSEY, UK, September 14, 1999 -- At the Defense Systems & Equipment International Exhibition & Conference, September 14-17, 1999, BARCO Display Systems introduces the Vector product line, which consists of a new range of rugged flat panel displays (10”, 12” and 15”), a control module and HMI software. The VECTOR product line is especially designed for defense Vetronics applications, such as observation and visualization on board armored vehicles.
The split design with a Panel Module (display) separated from the Video Control Module, allows for easy integration into vehicles with limited cockpit space or into consoles with depth constraints. This unique modular split package allows the interfacing electronics to be remotely located from the display panel. In case there are no space restrictions, the two modules can also be mounted together. Both modules are connected by means of a single cable, the VectorLink, and can be installed separately up to 5 meter from each other.

Observation
For observation purposes, the VECTOR Display System features multiple video and thermal camera display possibilities. Both day and night cameras can be connected, whereas an internal selector allows switching between images from two video inputs.

Visualization
The observation display can also be used as a Battlefield Management System (BMS) display, for visualization of maps and tactical information. The camera images can be overlaid with text and icons by means of the On-Screen Display feature.

Optionally, a powerful Symbol Generator can be added to create and control full graphics and dynamic overlays, such as compass roses and reticles. Additionally, the operator can switch from camera input to RGB input to visualize tactical mapping information or electronic charts generated by an external computer.

The Panel Module optionally comes with a set of 20 user-definable function buttons with illumination and/or status indication. Thanks to its ergonomic design and input options, the Panel Module can be used as a hand-held terminal, and can optionally be equipped with a touch screen.

The VECTOR display system features a lightweight, cost-effective composite housing that has been ruggedized in accordance with MIL-STD-810 for application in hostile environments. Furthermore, this composite housing is completely sealed to prevent moisture, sand and dust contamination.
