BARCO Launches Conduction-Cooled VME Video Mixer

FARNBOROUGH, UK, 10 September, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems premieres the FlexiVision conduction-cooled video window subsystem at the Farnborough International Exhibition, September 7-13, 1998. BARCO’s new conduction-cooled FlexiVision subsystem is a three (3) 6U VME card set that provides the simultaneous display of separate multi-sensor video sources.
For critical airborne surveillance applications, the FlexiVision video mixers can process radar, FLIR and video data, which is presented on a single display with any standard RGB video output, ranging from 640 x 480 to 1600 x 1200 resolution. The video sources, which appear as windows within the high resolution RGB video, can be independently positioned, scaled, and merged.

FlexiVision offers a totally digital video mixing implementation. This digital approach to mixing insures video fidelity over the full airborne platform operating temperature range. This digital process also eliminates video artifacts such as video windowing edge noise, or noise effects from overlayed windows (cursors), associated with analogue mixed systems. FlexiVision provides unique capabilities such as keying, and transparency display, when processing data from a wide range of video signals.

BARCO’s new conduction-cooled VME FlexiVision video window subsystem was selected by Raytheon Computer Products, Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA, for the Royal Air Force NIMROD Mk4 Tactical Command System.
