Barco leads the way in 3D software for PACS at RSNA

New Voxar 3D version 5.1 provides superior image quality and major performance improvements

RSNA 2004, CHICAGO, IL, USA, 28 November 2004 – At the 90th annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Barco will demonstrate the latest release of its leading Voxar 3D software. Several enhancements to its core Multi-Planar Reconstruction (MPR) and 3D reconstruction software, designed for integration into PACS, will be presented. At RSNA, over 30 leading PACS vendors will showcase Barco’s Voxar 3D software on over 150 PACS workstations. These impressive numbers confirm Barco’s position as the leader in 3D software for PACS.

“PACS vendors choose Voxar 3D because it offers MPR and 3D functionality for PACS that operates seamlessly and efficiently within the workflow. Barco has achieved this by providing its partners with several 3D software integration options that are optimized to work well with a range of PACS architectures,” said Craig Anderson, General Manager of the Voxar Product Group.

Barco’s forthcoming release of Voxar 3D software incorporates a host of new technology improvements designed to reduce reading time, improve performance and productivity, and enhance workflow. Version 5.1 of Voxar 3D also provides radiologists with the ability to work with increasingly large studies, produced by the newest generation of MDCT scanners, such as a runoff CTA with over 2000 slices. In addition, version 5.1. provides substantially enhanced image quality, including specular lighting effects, that improve depth perception and surface detail to provide radiologists with life-like views of patient anatomy. This significant update to image quality aids 3D reviews of bones, vascular structures and soft tissue surfaces.

BARCO’S latest version of Voxar 3D offers software partners new levels of customization, including increased control over the look and feel of the Voxar 3D user-interface and the capability to alter the behavior of the Voxar 3D software to mirror that of the PACS workstation. End-users will benefit from a streamlined diagnostic workflow with Voxar 3D’s advanced post-processing tool that is tightly embedded into their PACS software. They can launch the Voxar 3D software directly within the PACS workstation, which allows them to access the MPR and 3D tools they need in a mouse click and offers a single application with a unified look and feel.

Building on the success of the site license program, Barco has now also introduced a number of enhancements aimed at streamlining the rollout and maintenance of software across customer sites. These include new facilities for centralized deployment and configuration, which make a site license easy-to-maintain, control and upgrade.

“Whether you have PACS or are planning for PACS, 3D visualization represents an invaluable resource improving the speed and accuracy of diagnoses. By working closely with customers and PACS partners, Barco offers the only software solution that gives you unlimited user access to full MPR and 3D workstation functionality including advanced MPR tools with endoscopic views, 3D segmentation and Live Images, wherever you access the software,” concluded Craig Anderson.
