Barco Projectors Selected for Cleopatra Exhibit at Chicago’s Field Museum

Kennesaw, GA – November 26, 2001 - The Show Department in Chicago, IL provided Barco high performance display technology for the grand opening of the Cleopatra Exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago. Williams/Gerard Productions Chicago produced the event and video content. The Show Department, world renowned industry leaders in providing event production, provided two double-stacked Barco SLM G-5 DLP™ projectors with .8 lenses to project brilliant images onto a curved 9’ x 16’ scrim material. At the conclusion of the video, a live actress, playing Cleopatra, “magically” appears behind the scrim. The high light output of the SLM G-5 projectors on the scrim, hid the actress until her unveiling at the conclusion of the show. Cleopatra of Egypt: From History to Myth runs from October 20, 2001- March 3, 2002.
The Show Department has provided rental staging equipment and show technical services for more than 18 years to a worldwide client list, including Fortune 500 companies. They stock five models of Barco high-performance display technology, with over 30 units in stock, including eight Barco ELM R12 and six Barco SLM R6 units.

“We were faced with a difficult projection problem on the Cleopatra project. We had a limited screen to projector distance, a curved screen, combined with a small space for the projectors to live in, and the projector had to be very bright to saturate the scrim material and hide “Cleopatra” until her debut,” said Larry Whitlow, Manager, Special Projects, The Show Department, “The Barco G-5’s solved all of those problems. The integrated mounting and rigging helped solve the space problem, and the light output kept Cleo hidden until her debut.”

“The Show Department’s commitment to excellence has made them one of Chicago’s largest Rental and Staging companies. Lee Facklis, a co-owner of The Show Department, has continuously focused on delivering the latest technology to each of his clients. This has been done through such purchases as the new SLM G5 and R6 DLP™ projectors from Barco Projection Systems. Lee has been one of Barco’s greatest supporters over the years, ” said Craig Stumbaugh, Barco’s Central Rental and Staging Sales Manager.
