Barco Projectors Selected for Live Telecasts at Case Western Reserve University for the JASON XII Project

Barco to provide state-of-the-art video projection for the JASON XII project’s live expedition broadcasts

BARCO, the world leader in large screen video and graphics display technology, will provide state-of-the-art video projection to Case Western Reserve University for the JASON XII Live Field Expedition from Hawaii. The JASON project was created by Dr. Robert Ballard, the explorer who discovered the wreckage of the RMS Titanic. The JASON XII curriculum features approximately 40 classroom and field exercises focusing on culture, geography, geology, climate, biology, ecology, and other research sciences. Live Expedition Broadcasts from Hawaii will be featured on three BarcoGraphics 6400 projectors. More than 2,000 school children will attend the daily hour-long broadcasts at Case Western Reserve University. The University will host 55 broadcasts over a 12-day period. Case Western purchased the three BarcoGraphics 6400 projectors for two-way live teleconferencing from Hawaii, projecting the host research scientists across three large screens in a classroom environment. The JASON XII Live Expedition Broadcasts begin Monday January 29th - Friday February 9th. The broadcasts will also take place at additional sites across the United States and around the world.

Case Western Reserve University is one of the nations leading independent research universities, with programs that include the arts and sciences, engineering, health sciences, law, management, and social work.

“We are extremely honored to be a part of this exciting research project,” said Mike Kubit, Assistant Director of AV Services for Case Western Reserve University. “The capabilities of the Barco displays will allow us to captivate the true scenery of the Hawaiian Islands, and in a sense, allow the students to feel as if they are actually in Hawaii exploring the islands natural habitats during these live telecasts.”

Jerry Dixon, National Sales Manager for Barco Projection Systems, Inc, stated, “Barco is proud to be participating in such an innovative research project. The students that participate in the JASON XII project are not only going to obtain a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the Hawaiian Islands, but also see the true, vibrant colors of these islands thanks to the Barco projectors.”
