BARCO Receives Multi-Million Dollar Follow-on Orders For U.S. Navy’s AN/UYQ-70 Program
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, December 10, 1997 -- BARCO Display Systems has received several multi-million dollar follow-on orders from Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense Systems, Eagan, Minnesota, to supply a combination of high performance graphics controllers, video frame grabbers, rugged color monitors and rugged color flat panel displays for the U.S. Navy’s AN/UYQ-70 program.
Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor for the AN/UYQ display and computing system program, selected BARCO’s graphics controllers due to the ability to bridge and emulate proprietary legacy systems with COTS products. More importantly, BARCO provided the U.S. Navy with a technology insertion roadmap for several program platforms that will enable a seamless hardware and software transition for both controllers and rugged displays. For example, the BARCO CX4000 three VME board graphics controller set will be replaced with BARCO’s new IVS4000 single VME board, which will provide the same unique capability of mixing graphics, radar and real time video data simultaneously. BARCO also offers a full line of rugged color flat panel displays which dramatically reduces the weight, depth, and power consumption associated with rugged CRTs.
BARCO will still continue to supply the 19” RGN 651 and 14” RGN 639 rugged color displays for the majority of the AN/UYQ-70 consoles. Both displays have a special magnetic immune system (MIS) which enable the monitors to operate in a strong magnetic environment.
Lockheed Martin is integrating both the BARCO graphics controllers and rugged displays into the UYQ-70 consoles which are currently installed in all new build and upgrades for the U.S. Navy’s AEGIS surface ships. Other Navy programs that are scheduled to utilize the UYQ-70 include the new NSSN Submarine, E2-C Surveillance Aircraft, the Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), the Advanced Combat Direction System (ACDS), and Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC).
