BARCO Selected as Preferred Solutions Provider for America's Millennium - A Celebration for the Nation

BARCO has been selected to provide high performance display technology for "America's Millennium - A Celebration for the Nation", which took place in the nation's capital on New Year's Eve. The celebration was held in the Lincoln Memorial and hosted by top recording artist and renowned actor Will Smith. The event was presided by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. CBS aired the event nationwide from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am (live EST/delayed PDT). Entertainment included a live orchestra, various gospel choirs, as well as performances by host Will Smith and his dance entourage. Prior to midnight, a short film created specifically for this event, by award winning director and producer Steven Spielberg, entitled 'The Unfinished Journey', was shown on four, quad-stacked BARCO ELM G10 projectors. The images were projected onto a 40' x 30' screen and viewed by millions of people across the nation.

Michael Seligman, renowned producer and CEO and President of Michael Seligman Enterprises, was the supervising producer for the "America's Millennium" project. Seligman has produced spectacular events including both the Oscar's and the Emmy's. "DLP Technology and BARCO were our only choice due to the brightness and high resolution we needed in this demanding application," said Seligman, "This technology is the future."

BARCO provided four ELM G10 Extreme Light Machine projectors to Seligman for the event. The projectors, equipped with high resolution Digital Light Processingä (DLPä ) technology from Texas Instruments, were used to showcase the Spielberg film. The four projectors were stacked and their images superimposed to achieve a brilliant 40’ x 30‘ image with an incredible 40,000 ANSI lumens of light. In order to achieve the high image quality necessary to display the Spielberg film, a Digital Beta Cam player was used to deliver a pristine digital video signal to the BARCO projectors.

"We are honored to have been chosen to provide the projection systems for this prestigious engagement" said Steven Barlow, Marketing Manager for BARCO Projection Systems America. "We are confident that the millions of viewers across America were impressed with the rich image quality delivered by our ELM Series projectors."

BARCO introduced the ELM G10 and ELM R12 high performance, high brightness large screen projectors in Orlando, FL during the INFOCOMM International Trade Show in June of 1999. The projectors combine the state-of-the-art DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology from Texas Instruments with BARCO's knowledge in mechanics, optics, and electronics design. The extreme brilliance, exceptional video performance and ease-of-use of BARCO's ELM Series make these projectors brilliant solutions for rental, staging, electronic cinema, and other large venue applications.
