Barco selected by Indra for major Spanish ATC system upgrades
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 1 September 2003 – Barco has been awarded a major order of 7 million Euro by Indra, Spain, for the supply of ISIS 28” 2K x 2K LCD main displays, TCD251B 20.1” Tower Control Displays and PVS6600 graphics controllers. Indra will integrate the ISIS main displays and PVS6600 graphics boards into the ATC operator workstations of Spain’s new En-route center in Gavá, Barcelona. A number of these ISIS displays will also be integrated into various international projects. The delivery of TCD251B units is part of a modernization project for the tower control centers in Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid and Tenerife.
Barco's ISIS 2K x 2K, 28" square flat panel LCD main display has been chosen by Indra for its high-performance image quality, its low lifecycle cost (4 field-replaceable backlight trays considerably reduce console down-time) and because it is fully compatible with the de facto ATC standard 20" x 20" square format. Moreover, the 4 MegaPixel ISIS display can easily be integrated into both new and existing Controller Working Positions. Indra has selected Barco's displays because they are specifically designed for this purpose.
The PVS6600 graphics controllers are specifically designed for use with the ISIS main displays. PVS6600 boards provide two independent video outputs. One output produces RGB video with resolutions up to 2048x2048 on a combined analog/digital DVI-I connector. The second video output provides analog video supporting display resolutions from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200. The two independent outputs allow for a single card to support both the main and auxiliary displays, whereas the digital output offers the opportunity to upgrade from analog CRT displays to digital solutions (like the ISIS flat panel display) without the need for upgrading the graphics adapter.
Barco's TCD251B is a compact 20.1" LCD display for control tower applications. The display's high brightness output (600 cd/m²) and wide dimming range (1000:1) allow an optimal setting, both in bright sun and dark night environments. It features an Ambient Light Compensation function which guarantees optimum readability at all times.
This new order consolidates Indra’s long-term relationship with Barco and values Barco’s support over the years. Deliveries will start in the course of this year with final shipments to be delivered by April 2004.
