BARCO Selected for EUROCONTROL''s Maastricht Upper Area Control Center
MAASTRICHT, THE NETHERLANDS - February, 2001 -- BARCO has been selected by Airsys ATM, France, to provide seventy-five high-performance PCI graphics controllers for the New Operator Input and Display System (New-ODS) program for EUROCONTROL's Maastricht Upper Area Control Center, located at the Beek Airport in The Netherlands. Airsys has integrated the BARCO PVS 5600M with a COMPAQ DS-10 Computer and 20" x 20" high-resolution displays.
EUROCONTROL New-ODS, which will replace the 20-year old existing ODS system, includes 68 highly ergonomic Controller Working Positions (CWP) and provides an Advanced Human Machine Inter (HMI) that connects to the existing Radar and Flight Data Processing systems. Key features of New-ODS include compliance with Common Operational Performance Specifications (COPS), distributed system architecture; high capacity FDDI LAN, extensive utilization of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware and software, open system architecture, and use of internationally recognized standards: ANSI C, ANSI C++, MIL-STD-1815A (Ada), POSIX, X11R6, OSF/MOTIF.The BARCO PVS 5600M, selected for the EUROCONTROL New-ODS program, is a PCI single-slot graphics controller that supports a very large rendering sur with a screen resolution of up to 2048 x 2048. The architecture of PVS 5600M provides support for three independent planes: overlay, underlay and super overlay. The PVS 5600M also inters to multiple host CPU platforms besides the COMPAQ DS-10, including Pentium, Sparc and HP and supports the X-windows standard X11R6 and NT operating system.The primary reason for Airsys' selecting BARCO's COTS PCI controller product was because of the PVS 5600M's powerful high-performance graphics capability, which provides 32Mb of memory, and the ability to support the ODS Toolboxä , a critical requirement for the New-ODS application. The ODS Toolboxä supports software development and customized applications for ATC operational display systems.
