Barco sets the stage for 3D collaborative visualization at SIGGRAPH
Boston – Barco, the leading global provider of visual display solutions for virtual and augmented reality, invites SIGGRAPH attendees to visit booth 219 for a first-hand demonstration of its new VR Workroom environment and XDS-1000 modular external desktop system. These revolutionary solutions allow users to simultaneously project information from various data sources in multiple windows in high-resolution mono and 3D stereo format on a large screen. Using the familiar Windows XP interface, users can collaborate to perform fast, accurate team-based data analysis and decision-making for increased productivity.
“The VR Workroom is a complete virtual work environment that’s equipped with a Windows XP interface and the industry’s most advanced windowing capabilities,” says Ken Hunter, director of marketing, virtual & augmented reality for Barco’s simulation division. “The XDS-1000 is an external processor with several card modules and inputs that can be used with a variety of projection systems and VR environments. Both of these systems let you display live video images, photos, spreadsheets, teleconferences, and other information, as well as complex, multi-faceted data in 3D -- all simultaneously. There is no technology on the marketplace today that lets you visualize and interact with data in this fashion. These systems can be used in board rooms, research facilities, design centers, and other applications.”
The VR Workroom is powered by two Barco iCon stereo-enabled projectors that deliver high-definition information (HDTV 1920 x 1080 pixels) without the need for blending. An on-board processor and a range of inputs at the rear of the projector let the projector accept external computer and video sources and tap into a company’s network to quickly and easily display multiple, high-resolution mono and 3D stereo information windows on a large 16:9 screen. Users can freely position windows and frequently used content can be saved on the projector’s hard disk and retrieved on demand. Optical tracking and mouse emulation technology facilitate the direct, wireless interaction with the data. VR Workrooms can be networked and managed from a central IT/AV location. Applications include automotive design, oil & gas, homeland security and defense, scientific/medical research, and aerospace, to name a few.
SIGGRAPH attendees will also be the first to get an inside look at Barco’s new XDS-1000 external desktop system. This image processing unit is designed to work with an array of Barco mono or stereoscopic projectors to allow the array of projectors to act as a single projection canvas. The XDS-1000 connects to a broad range of external sources (data, video, and network). The XDS-1000 can display an unlimited number of mono windows and up to six stereo windows on a single, large projection canvas with high-quality resolution ranging from SGXA+ to UXGA. By easily adding and configuring modules, Barco’s XDS-1000 can turn any display room into a highly efficient tool to increase productivity and enhance knowledge sharing.
