Barco showcases its leading solutions for digital mammography and 3D imaging at ECR Vienna workshops
Barco will host Screening Mammography Interpretation Test workshop and participate in the ECR’s IMAGINE exhibit
ECR, VIENNA, AUSTRIA, 4 March 2005 – At this year’s European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, Barco will demonstrate its leading display solutions for digital mammography and 3D imaging at dedicated workshops.
From the 5th through the 7th of March Barco will partner with MeVis BreastCare, Bremen, Germany, Siemens Medical Solutions, Erlangen, Germany, and Hologic Inc., Bedford, MA, USA to host the fifth Screening Mammography Interpretation Test workshop. The workshop is under the medical leadership of Prof. Dr. Roland Holland and Mrs. Henny Rijken of the National Expert and Training Centre for Breast Cancer Screening - (NETB), at the University Medical Centre, Nijmegen the Netherlands. This year’s “Screening Mammography Interpretation Test” workshop features a fully digital set-up. Twelve dual-head FDA approved CORONIS display systems will be grouped together with twelve mammography workstations and mammography viewing software by MeVis BreastCare, Hologic and Siemens. At this practical interactive training session, radiologists will be able to test and improve their skills on softcopy mammography screening. Also, they will have the opportunity to experience the performance and pixel perfect quality of CORONIS 5MP Mammo, Barco's industry leading display system for digital mammography.
From the 4th through the 8th of March, Barco will take part in the ECR’s IMAGINE technical exhibit, where the company will demonstrate the benefits of its VOXAR 3D software, which can be integrated into a range of PACS architectures and benefit the radiologist by providing a single streamlined workflow.
Over the past 4 years, Prof. Holland, Mrs. Rijken and Dr. Hendriks have successfully led film-based screening mammography tests at the ECR. This year’s hands-on “Screening Mammography Interpretation Test” workshop is the first featuring a fully digital set-up. Twelve dual-head FDA approved CORONIS display systems will be grouped together with twelve mammography workstations and dedicated mammography viewing software by MeVis BreastCare, Hologic and Siemens. During the workshop a series of screening cases will be read by the radiologists, of which some are positive. Participants must decide for each case whether the patient should be required to have further assessment. The radiologists will have the opportunity to screen four different sets of 30 cases and evaluate their results. They will also be able to discuss the cases with the above experts.
This year Barco was invited to present its latest 3D imaging advances at the ECR’s IMAGINE technical exhibit. Barco will demonstrate its advanced MPR and 3D toolsets together with its specialized clinical application modules designed for, and integrated into, a PACS environment. The company will also demonstrate performance advances made in software- and hardware-based 3D image rendering.
Under the title "The Intelligent Department", the IMAGINE exhibition simulates the state-of-the-art radiology reading room where radiologists will be working in completely digital departments, with seamless integrations of PACS, IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) standards, and rapid, easy-to-use 3D visualization. The exhibit is designed to educate radiologists about the advanced technical developments that can be applied to their everyday radiological work to improve productivity and workflow.
