Barco to deliver avionics displays and Control Display Units for the Ilyushin 114-100 airliner
MAKS, Zhukovsky, Russia, 16 August 2005 – Visualization specialist Barco has achieved a new success in the civil aviation market. The company announced today it has won a contract from Tashkent Aircraft Production Corporation, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to supply avionics displays and Control Display Units for 10 new Ilyushin 114-100 civil aircraft.
The new IL-114-100 airliner, which is built by the Tashkent Aircraft Production Corporation, will incorporate an advanced avionics solution, including 5 Multi-Function Displays and 2 Control Display Units. The Uzbek manufacturer opted for Barco’s full electronic flight instruments system, combining MFD-6.8/1 Multi-Function Displays and Control Display Units, because of its proven performance and reliability under all conditions. Another decisive factor was the company’s ability to provide first-line service and support, close to the customer, from its regional service center in Zhukovsky, Russia.
The MFD-6.8/1 units that were selected for this project are smart displays with 6" x 8" screens. Aboard the IL-114-100, the units will perform as Navigation Displays, Primary Flight Displays, Warning Displays and System Multifunction Displays. All software applications will be integrated by the Institute of Aircraft Equipment, NIIAO.
Barco’s Control Display Units feature a color 3" x 4" Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display and are designed with cold wall cooling, which results in high reliability and a low life cycle cost, even in harsh operating environments.
Certification of the first prototype of the new Il-114-100 aircraft is supposed to be finished by the end of this year. The Tashkent Aircraft Production Corporation has already received orders for the first 10 aircraft.
