Barco unveils ISONA™ integrated ATC main display station
New ISONA™ combines display and visualization subsystem into a fully integrated 2Kx2K display station for ATC working positions
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 10 February 2004 – At this year’s ATC Maastricht show, Barco premieres ISONA™, the latest addition to its innovative component line for the ATC market. ISONA™ is a fully integrated display station, combining a graphics board, visualization software, and associated display into an enhanced version of the ISIS 2Kx2K display package. ISONA™ is Barco’s latest answer to the growing demand for tailor-made, evolutionary ATC system upgrades.

Four years ago, Barco launched ISIS™, the world’s first large screen LCD display, engineered for direct CRT display replacement. A worldwide installed base of over 1600 units proves that today’s ATC community values the revolutionary ISIS™ concept, which has become the de-facto 2Kx2K LCD solution for the ATC community. Last year Barco introduced VISONA™, a single box display server, which separates graphics generation from the applications computer. With the introduction of ISONA™, Barco now goes one step further by integrating the complete display server and display into one physical package: the ISONA™ display station.
The integrated approach of ISONA™ allows the display station to be integrated into a network, hundreds of meters away from the application computers. By removing the need for local computer hardware, ISONA™ enables the design of very compact controller working positions. Moreover, ISONA™’s single-unit architecture makes it an optimized, cost-effective visualization solution.
ISONA™ features a 28” 2Kx2K LCD main display, offering crisp and consistent images at all times. Thanks to its excellent LCD brightness and viewing angle, ISONA™ successfully counteracts eye fatigue and presents operators with accurate information, even in difficult ambient conditions.
ISONA™’s integrated display server operates as a networked graphics server that translates the standard X11 protocol from remote applications into video output, which is displayed on the screen in real-time. This solution eliminates the need for graphics generation hardware in the application computer, thus increasing overall performance and facilitating future upgrades and reconfigurations. Moreover, the server supports redundant networks and system monitoring through an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) interface. It has options for Barco’s ODS Window Manager and the TELLAR™ recording, archiving and playback capability, which can be added without changing existing applications.
ISONA™ will make its first appearance on the show floor on the occasion of this year’s ATC Maastricht Show.
