Barco wins multi-million euro contract from AMS for several naval programs
SEA-AIR-SPACE, WASHINGTON D.C., USA, 6 April 2004 – Barco has won a multi-million euro contract from Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS), Italy, for the delivery of up to 400 MRFD 351 Modular Rugged Flat Displays. The MRFD 351 units will be integrated into naval programs in Italy and in several export markets.
Barco’s MRFD family combines a Display Module (DM) with a Display Control Module (DCM) into a total visualization solution for use in a variety of land-based, airborne, and naval C4I-SR applications. Thanks to this split design concept, the Display Control Module can be placed in a remote location requiring less console space. To provide a single line replaceable unit installation, the DCM can also be attached to the Display Module. The MRFD 351 features a 20.1” modular rugged AMLCD display with a resolution of 1600 x 1200, offering excellent visual performance and superior ruggedization for use in extreme environmental conditions. The MRFD enables combining graphics, video and other RGB data on a single display.
AMS opted for Barco’s MRFD 351 because of its proven ruggedization qualifications. The display features a rugged, fully enclosed architecture and a front bonded LCD panel, keeping the LCD 100% dust and condensation free. In addition, AMS valued Barco’s commitment to guaranteed fast and timely deliveries.
First MRFD 351 units were delivered mid March 2004. Other deliveries will follow in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
