BARCO’s Graphics Controllers Operational in Micro-EARTS Honolulu and Nellis Air Force Base Sites
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, June 2, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems is pleased to announce that the US Air Force and Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) completed Operational Readiness Demonstration of the Microprocessor Enroute Automated Radar Tracking System (Micro-EARTS) at both Nellis Air Force Base and Honolulu Combined Enroute Radar Approach Control (CERAP). Both facilities upgraded to the more cost-efficient and state-of-the-art Lockheed Martin Air Traffic Management’s (Rockville, MD) Micro-EARTS controller workstation, (MCW) which incorporates COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) hardware including Sony’s 2K x 2K monitors and BARCO Display Systems’ advanced PCI 4700 graphics controllers.
The BARCO PCI 4700 is a powerful 2048 x 2048 single board PCI graphics controller with extensive X-window software support, which provides the Micro-EARTS system with the capability to record and playback air traffic information in real-time, enhancing system safety by providing immediate event analysis. The PCI 4700 drawing acceleration functionality increases the graphics performance, which is very critical for time-symbology information applications such as air traffic control.
Lockheed Martin’s Micro-EARTS combines both enroute and terminal ATC displays of air traffic data received from multiple short and long range radars. The new Micro-EARTS, with the BARCO PCI 4700 graphics controllers, have been installed at over 10 FAA/Department of Defense locations including Fairbanks, Fort Polk, Shaw Air Force Base, San Juan, White Sands Missile Range, Guam and Honolulu CERAP sites, Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Center, and Nellis Air Force Base.
