Barco’s latest diagnostic display solution selected by Yale-New Haven Hospital

RSNA Annual meeting, Chicago, IL, USA, 30 November 2008 - Medical imaging specialist Barco announced today that Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT, widely recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report, has chosen the Barco Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system to provide diagnostic confidence and exceptional value for its radiology professionals. Barco partnered with Fujifilm Medical Systems to integrate this innovative technology into the Synapse® PACS environment utilized throughout Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP DL system is the industry’s first 6 MegaPixel PACS display system for diagnostic imaging. The innovative solution features a 30-inch workspace with no center bezel, giving radiologists the freedom to organize their desktop as one widescreen 6MP or two 3MP displays, in grayscale or color, for full diagnostic detail. Coronis Fusion 6MP DL also includes Barco’s ‘MediCal QAWeb’ software and a 5-year warranty to reduce unscheduled downtime, decrease expenses, and lower the total cost of ownership.

Matthew Zawalich, Lead Systems Analyst at Yale-New Haven’s department of Diagnostic Radiology, commented on the new technology: “It is critical that the displays we use allow our radiologists to quickly and efficiently interpret studies from multiple modalities - be it a chest X-ray, vascular US, or a 3D rendering of a cross sectional imaging study. In addition, our clinicians benefit from the ability to compare imaging studies without having to look across the plastic bezel that exists in traditional high-resolution medical display technologies.”

Mike Sklar, Barco’s Director North-America for Medical Imaging, described the Barco/Fujifilm/Yale-New Haven Hospital partnership: “Barco is pleased to supply Yale-New Haven Hospital with the new Coronis Fusion 6MP DL technology through our partnership with Fujifilm. It allows the hospital to realize the technological and diagnostic gains made through the combination of Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP DL and Fujifilm’s Synapse® PACS integration.” Sklar continued: “Barco’s reputation of providing leading-edge technology, benefits clinicians in many ways, and we are proud that Yale-New Haven Hospitals chose Barco for their medical imaging needs.”

Yale-New Haven Hospital has purchased 60 Coronis 6MP and Nio 4MP Fusion displays to be installed within the Radiology and PACS environment throughout the entire hospital. With this technology agreement, Barco has become a major supplier for Yale-New Haven’s radiology and PACS diagnostic display needs.

Barco is an established market leader in diagnostic quality flat panel displays. Barco’s products offer system wide integration to Barco’s web-based display QA program MediCal QAWeb. With unmatched image quality, Barco display systems are the most widely used PACS displays in North America.
