BARCO’s Tower Control Displays Selected by DFS, Germany for 17 International German Airports

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, USA, 2 November, 1998 -- BARCO Display Systems has been selected by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, Offenbach, Germany to provide a first series of over 50 Tower Control Displays TCD321 I (industrial version) for the upgrade of the air traffic control systems of 17 international airports in Germany. After a competitive product comparison, DFS Germany declared BARCO to have the best quality tower monitor in the market. This order is part of a contract that will run over the next 3 years.
BARCO’s TCD 321 I has been selected because of its extremely high brightness output and wide light output range, which allows an optimal setting in bright sun daylight or in dark night time environments. In combination with the Ambient Light Control (ALC) function, the display will automatically adjust to extreme low-level night conditions and high bright sun viewing. Furthermore, the ALC function reduces the light output in case the latter is not required; which will lengthen the life time of the CRT.

The BARCO tower monitors will be used for applications such as TracView, WIAS and DEPCOS. TracView shows the actual air traffic situation to the air traffic controller. The WIAS Weather Information and Notification System gives ample information on both the actual weather conditions and the weather predictions; whereas the DEPCOS Departure Co-ordination System facilitates the co-ordination of departing aeroplanes.
