Dolby Chooses Barco for Premiere Screening Facility

Atlanta, GA – March 2, 2004 – Barco Digital Cinema is pleased to announce that Dolby Laboratories has purchased a Barco DP100 DLP Cinema™ Projector for the company’s exclusive screening room facility in San Francisco. The projector will be utilized for private screenings and quality control checks of special projects.
Based on the latest generation TI m25 DLP Cinema™ technology, the Barco DP100 offers the benefits of 2048 x 1080 display resolution, 18,000 Cinema lumens light output, a minimum contrast ratio of 1700:1 and DLP Cinema™ CineCanvas™, CineBlack™, CinePallete™ and CineLink™ image control. In a radical departure from the traditional form of digital cinema projectors, the DP100 employs a uniquely flexible construction, featuring a fully integrated digital projector head and separate pedestal, to both simplify and enable an exceptional range of installation configurations. Adding to the benefits of the integrated projection head, the D-Cine Premiere projector is equipped with a hermetically sealed optical assembly, a unique DMD convergence system and Constant Light Output software to ensure superb performance over time.

“The decision to install the Barco DP100 and ACSAR II in Dolby Laboratories’ San Francisco theatre was influenced in part by the acceptance of the Barco Communicator control software within the studio and post community,” stated loan Allen, Vice President, Dolby Laboratories. “As the Bay Area’s premiere screening room, Dolby’s theatre shows presentations from many varied sources using many formats. The flexibility that the Barco DP100, ACSAR II and the Communicator software offers provides us with crucial control.”

Joe DeMeo, National Sales Manager, Barco Digital Cinema, stated, “We are extremely pleased to partner with one of the pioneers of the cinema audio industry. Dolby's high standards and quality manufacturing mirror Barco's philosophy toward product development, and their level of expertise in the industry strongly reflects these principals. We look forward to establishing the future of digital cinema together.”
