Eurocopter signs contract with Barco for Australian Tiger reconnaissance helicopters
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 3 September 2003 – Barco has been awarded a contract by Eurocopter, Marignane, France, for the delivery of 44 CDMS (CDU) Control Display and Management Systems and 22 ACP-G Control Panels to be integrated into the Eurocopter Tiger helicopters of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Barco's ACP-G is a 4” x 3” high-bright Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) control panel, used to display the helicopter’s defense systems’ status, whereas the CDMS is a compact, light-weight Control Display and Management System with a 3" x 4" sunlight-readable AMLCD. The AMLCD technology provides high brightness, excellent contrast and reduced volume with low power consumption. Barco’s CDMS is designed with passive cooling, giving it high reliability and maintaining low life cycle cost, even in harsh operating environments.
Eurocopter’s Tiger is a state-of-the-art, multi-role military helicopter, which incorporates cutting-edge technologies, including composite airframe to minimize weight and reduce radar cross section; latest-generation engines and rotors; built-in low-cost maintenance design and latest generation avionics systems. For the Australian Tiger ARH program, Eurocopter integrated Barco's multi-functional ACP-G and CDMS, also called CDU by Eurocopter, because of their excellent sunlight readability and high optical performance in life-critical and demanding aerospace applications. The contract is a follow-on on an earlier multi-million dollar contract between Barco and Eurocopter, concerning 320 CDMS units for the French-German Tiger helicopter program. The new agreement illustrates both companies’ wish to establish a close and constructive cooperation on a long-term basis.

Eurocopter will start receiving the ACP-G and CDMS units by the end of this year, with deliveries continuing until 2005.
