Glan Clwyd hospital purchases Barco's advanced visualization solution
Voxar 3D Enterprise brings improved speed and ease-of-use to the hospital’s Fujifilm Synapse PACS solution
KORTRIJK, Belgium, 9 January 2008 – Barco announces that Conwy & Denbighshire NHS Trust (Wales, UK) based Glan Clwyd Hospital has invested significantly to integrate Voxar 3D Enterprise into its Fujifilm Synapse PACS. The new advanced visualization solution will provide the hospital with ultra-fast access to large volumetric studies throughout the hospital enterprise.
When dealing with volumetric studies, rapid access and distribution of the images is sometimes a problem. Voxar 3D Enterprise solves this perfectly by considerably reducing the load times of large thin slice datasets (1000+ images in less than 15 seconds). Voxar 3D Enterprise also facilitates real-time access to full workstation functionality and clinical applications. This is achieved by using powerful off-the-shelf server-based technology and high-performance ATI graphics processing units. By seamlessly integrating into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Voxar 3D Enterprise provides new workflow and productivity benefits.
Glan Clwyd Hospital had used Voxar 3D Workstation for three years before deciding to upgrade to Voxar 3D Enterprise. Dr. McConnell, lead interventional consultant radiologist at Glan Clwyd, explains the decision: “We were really satisfied with the Voxar 3D Workstation solution. It allowed all radiologists to consult volumetric studies on the workstation in their offices, rather than having to walk to the reading room. In fact, the initial reason we upgraded to Voxar 3D Enterprise was for the short-term archiving of thin-slice datasets. This adds convenience and extra speed to the processing of volumetric studies. However, we found the biggest benefit of Voxar 3D Enterprise is the ease-of-use. Besides Voxar 3D Enterprise Elite, which was selected by Glan Clwyd, the product family also consists of Voxar 3D Enterprise Access. This thin client solution provides access to the most commonly used advanced visualization tools on any standard networked PC connected to the Voxar 3D Enterprise server. With Access, the 3D reconstructions are created entirely on the server and are streamed to the user in real time.
