HRH Prince Filip visits Barco's 225m2 display wall at the NNOC of Reliance Infocomm

Mumbai, India, 18 March 2005 – Reliance Infocomm, India’s telecom industry giant, welcomes Belgium’s HRH Prince Filip at its National Network Operations Center (NNOC) in Mumbai, one of Barco’s worldclass projects.

The Reliance project is only one example of the expansion of Barco in India. In recent years India has been showing a major increase in annual GNP growth (8.2% in 2004) and is therefore to be counted amongst the group of fast developing economies. India is also a growth market for Barco. Barco recognizes the potential of the country and has expanded in the country over the last years. Because the government has increased its investment in infrastructure, Barco also invested more by setting up a network of offices, direct sales and support centers to ride this wave.
Today Barco has sales offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Fueled by the economic expansion, Barco’s sales in India increased by 30% in 2004 versus 2003.
India also offers attractive opportunities for product development as well as for manufacturing. India is renowned for its highly skilled workforce. The education system churns out almost 300,000 engineers each year, with world class technical skills and educated in English, to Western standards, many in universities set up with international cooperation.
In Noida, Barco has an R&D center for software development and manufacturing operation for high quality projection technology, which is exported to all continents. Barco employs about 290 people in India.

About Reliance Infocomm’s NNOC

Reliance Infocomm network is a pan India, high capacity, integrated (wireless and wireline) and convergent (voice, data and video) digital network, designed to offer services that span the entire Infocomm value chain - infrastructure, services for enterprises and individuals, applications and consulting. The network is designed to deliver services that will foster a new way of life for a New India.
Working at breakneck speed, from late 1999 to 2002 Reliance Infocomm built the backbone for a digital India - 60,000 kilometres of fibre optic backbone, crisscrossing the entire country.

In Reliance’s selection process for a control room provider, crucial issues like control room design and functionality of modern NNOC’s were evaluated. Barco was selected thanks to its market leadership position in projection technology and proven expertise in display wall control systems. With telecom reference sites all over the world, Barco was able to clearly illustrate its extensive project, system and user experience (Man/Wall Interface). Other factors that undoubtedly reinforced Barco’s predominance included Barco’s comprehensive iCare program monitoring the status of its installations worldwide as well as Barco’s customer services, ranging from 24/7 telephone support to on-site training & support.

In a slightly curved configuration, the display spans almost the entire length of the NNOC’s two opposing walls. Barco’s 225m² total display solution integrates projection technology, controlware and wall management software. Barco enables the dynamic visualization of network monitoring applications and web-based supervision of the network’s routers and switchers, as well as the simultaneous display of 4 video and 2 RGB sources per display section. Barco’s screen-scraping software allows the content of the operators’ PCs to be replicated on the display walls. The controlware was selected, among other reasons, because of its upgradeability, offering Reliance the most future-proof front-end available.
