Largest municipal hospital group in Europe banks on Barco displays
Kortrijk, Belgium, 3 March 2009 – Medical imaging specialist Barco has won a large PACS display order from the Nürnberg Hospital South in Nürnberg, Germany. Under an agreement with PACS provider MedicalCommunications GmbH, Barco will provide the facility with dedicated color and grayscale display systems for its various reading applications, along with a user-friendly solution for online Quality Assurance and asset management. Earlier, Barco’s monitors were also selected for the affiliate hospital Nürnberg North. Together, these hospitals make up the largest municipal hospital group in Europe.
“This significant contract is an accolade for the fruitful collaboration between MedicalCommunications and Barco,” comments Martin Schinkmann, CEO of MedicalCommunications GmbH. “Barco’s high-grade displays, including the brand-new Coronis Fusion 6MP DL, and our powerful Ashvins PACS make up an effective diagnostic solution that perfectly meets Nürnberg Hospital’s imaging demands.”
Physicians at Nurnberg North are very complimentary about the excellent quality and precision of the Barco displays they are using. “Backed by a faultless track record at Nurnberg North, Barco was the natural choice for the second phase of the project at Nürnberg Hospital South. Their extensive product offering provided physicians from every department with a dedicated, high-quality visualization solution tuned to their clinical needs,” Schinkmann explained.
One of the eye-catchers in Nürnberg’s new display fleet will be Barco’s brand-new Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system. This 30-inch viewport is the world’s first diagnostic color display that can be used both as two seamless 3 MegaPixel displays or one uninterrupted 6 MegaPixel large-screen display. This flexible ‘Fusion’ architecture allows physicians to review various color and grayscale modalities, including CR, CT, MR, ultrasound, cath and echo cardiogram images, side-by-side on a single, seamless screen.
To ensure the long-term consistency of its PACS stations, the Nürnberg Hospital will also deploy Barco’s user-friendly solution for Quality Assurance. This MediCal QAWeb tool is a secured online system which includes smart features for intervention-free calibration, QA and display asset management throughout the entire hospital group. Thanks to MediCal QAWeb, radiologists can be confident that their displays are constantly compliant with the German DIN guidelines.
With 2,170 beds and 5,500 staff at two locations, the Nürnberg Hospital is the largest municipal hospital in Europe. The clinical center treats 89,500 stationary and 66,300 ambulatory patients per year. In radiology, 40 radiologists perform 241,000 radiology examinations on average every year.
