Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport chooses Barco's ISONA display station as the way forward
ATC MAASTRICHT, 1 February 2005 – Barco has been selected by the Air Navigation Service of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to deliver 40 ISONA main display stations. The 2K x 2K display stations will be integrated into the airport’s approach control room. With the purchase of ISONA, Charles de Gaulle Airport is ready to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges with respect to system flexibility and upgradability.
With ISONA, Barco introduced the world’s first integrated display station, combining graphics generator, visualization software and 2Kx2K LCD display into a single-unit, slimline package. Barco’s ISONA display station builds upon the proven success of ISIS, the world’s first large screen flat panel display for Air Traffic Management, and VISONA, Barco’s single-box multiple display server.
Charles de Gaulle Airport has chosen Barco’s ISONA display station because of its compact and flexible architecture. ISONA’s innovative single-unit concept offers system integrators the benefits of a flexible, networked solution. The integrated design simplifies new system architectures and allows easy integration into existing systems. Moreover, ISONA has been conceptually designed for future technology insertions. Charles de Gaulle Airport has chosen for a configuration where each ISONA display station will hook up to multiple networks and will include specific Barco recording and playback software.
Barco’s ISONA has also been chosen because of its remote functionality. Thanks to its open network interface, ISONA can be used as a network addressable application display, combining graphics generation and display function in one functional unit. With ISONA, the controller working position can be installed hundreds of meters away from the application platforms, which allows independent upgrades of both the graphics generation system and the display system.
Barco’s ISONA is fully compatible with the graphical workstations that are currently used by the STNA (Service Technique de la Navigation Aérienne), the technical division of the French Civil Aviation Authority DGAC (Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile). The graphical workstations, which consist of a Linux PC, a PVS6600 display controller, a Barco Xserver and recording software, were provided by Barco from 2002 onwards, for control centers all over France.
The first ISONA units will be delivered in the second quarter of 2005.
ISONA, ISIS and VISONA are trademarks of Barco.
