Barco projection and lighting to bring back the grandeur of the Opera House
Built in 1866, the Royal Opera House in Malta’s capital Valletta was of the most beautiful and iconic buildings in the city. Its history, however, has been one of repeated destruction and restoration. After a large fire destroyed the interior of the building in 1873, it was restored by 1877, only then to be hit by aerial bombing during World War II. A few years ago, the Maltese authorities decided to build a brand-new, open-air opera house on the ruins of the former cultural temple.
The Pjazza Teatru Rjal, as the new theater is called, was designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano and officially inaugurated in August 2013. More than being an architectural gem, it features the latest audiovisual and lighting systems, designed, supplied and installed by Barco distributor Telmaco. The Greek AV expert installed two Barco RLM-W12 projectors and four Barco High-End Axon Media Servers, amongst many other solutions.
Telmaco won the international tender submitted by Grand Harbor Regeneration Corporation. The client praised the involvement and dedication of the Barco distributor along with the reliable performance of the Barco equipment.
