Helsinki Music House

Heavenly music visualized by Barco’s biggest fixed installation in Finland

Inaugurated with a magnificent concert in August 2011, the Helsinki Music Centre is home to the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Sibelius Academy (part of the University of Arts, Helsinki). Each year, between September to May, the center hosts 70 to 100 concerts – classical, folk, jazz and pop music –, as well as many other events, ranging from fashion shows, company parties and congresses through to small and medium-sized corporate seminars.

Very best equipment
Whether the events are large-or small-scale, the Music Centre provides the right accommodation. In addition to the 1,704-seat Concert Hall, intended for acoustic music, there are also five smaller halls and the Klubi Restaurant, all of which have different acoustics and uses. Each and every room is equipped with the very best in acoustical and presentation equipment.

A total of 10 Barco projectors
When it was time to choose visualization solutions, head of the video department Mikko Nakari wanted to test the latest projection equipment available. In the end, the team decided to go with four of Barco’s 6,000 lumen three-chip RLM-W6 projectors, as well as three 8,000 lumen three-chip RLM-W8 projectors and a 20,000 lumen FLM-HD20. Once Barco had launched its high-bright HDX-W18 projectors, two of these were delivered in Helsinki too.

While the RLMs are used in smaller halls, the FLM and HDX ensure crisp images with clear contrast and good detail as a backdrop to the concerts in the impressive main hall. All in all, the Helsinki Music Hall features the biggest Barco fixed installation in Finland, to date. Petteri Partinen, sales manager for Barco partner msonic, explains: “In in a high-level venue such as Helsinki Music House, customers expect the best possible AV equipment, and we are proud to say that with its range of Barco projectors, the House can deliver just that.”

Nice to know: the Sibelius Academy, which is housed at the Music Theatre, is part of the University of Art Helsinki. In 2013, the University purchased a nice number of Barco projectors too. Read the reference story.
