Barco introduces digital moving map solution D-Map
Barco’s digital moving map software brings unprecedented situational awareness to aircrew members
FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL, UK, 19 July 2004 – On the occasion of this year’s Farnborough International Exhibition, Barco is proud to introduce its D-Map digital moving map. D-Map brings aircrew members unprecedented situational awareness by combining a large number of formats and overlay capabilities (threats, flight plan, terrain proximity, …). Thanks to its tight integration into Barco’s Processing Unit and Multi-Function Displays, the digital moving map software is a high-performance, robust and affordable solution that helps system integrators and aircraft manufacturers to keep cost, weight and power consumption low, while improving the overall system availability.
D-Map is tightly integrated into Barco’s Processing Units and Multi-Function Displays. It supports major map formats such as those from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The maps can easily be uploaded into the display units via a high-speed Ethernet link, allowing for an easy mission preparation and for a simple maintenance operation. It is targeted to all types of aircraft and helicopters.
Barco’s D-Map generates images using data from a single map format or from several map formats to create a composite image. It has the capability to overlay the flight plan, the threats and also to show the threats visibility. Digital Terrain Elevation Data is then used to enhance images with sun-shading, elevation color banding (absolute and relative), contour lines, slope shading and entity inter-visibility. It is also foreseen to support optional obstacle database for low-flight requirements such as those from helicopters.
D-MAP is a natural addition to MOSART™, Barco’s ARINC 653 based Modular Open System Architecture. MOSART™ is an affordable, flexible platform, offering optimal flexibility for manufacturer-independent future evolutions. With the addition of D-Map to MOSART™, system integrators can easily add their particular mission software application in a complete, ready-to-use and out-of-the-box digital moving map system. The INTEGRITY-178B Real Time Operating System from Green Hills Software enables D-Map to execute in a partition that can be certified to level C, whilst preserving, within a separate partition, the highest criticality level of the Primary Flight Display.
