L3 Communications signs follow-on contract with Barco for the delivery of MFD 6.8/1-RC avionics displays
KORTRIJK, BELGIUM, 3 September 2003 – Barco has been selected by L3 Communications, Greenville, TX, USA, to supply 54 MFD 6.8/1-RC Multi-Function Displays to be integrated into the cockpits of the US Air Force RC-135 Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft. The order follows on an earlier delivery of 25 units and fits into a significant upgrade of the RC-135’s deck instrumentation and navigation systems.
Barco's MFD-6.8/1-RC avionics displays are multi-function primary flight instrumentation displays with sunlight-readable 6" x 8" screens. State-of-the-art AMLCD technology ensures a superior optical performance in terms of luminance, contrast and reflectivity. MFD smart displays support a wide range of platforms and interfaces, including ARINC 429, ARINC 708/453, analog video, serial and synchro.L3 Communications opted for the MFD 6.8/1-RC because of its excellent image quality under all conditions and its intelligent split-box concept, which allows an easy integration in retrofit environments. The units will be integrated in the RC-135 cockpits as primary flight displays, navigation displays, video displays, Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) displays and Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) displays, clearly illustrating the MFD’s flexibility and multi-functionality.
With this significant order, L3 Communications values Barco’s high-performance, state-of-the-art solutions and services for the aviation industry. Deliveries have started this year and will be finished in 2004.
