BARCO Awarded $8.2 Million Contract for USA’s Newest Retail Mecca: Fashion Show

BARCO chosen to provide a state-of-the-art advertising and entertainment solution for its latest retail shopping development in Las Vegas

Kennesaw, GA – August 13, 2002 - BARCO announces today that it has been awarded a contract of $8.2 million with one of the USA’s foremost real estate development and management companies, The Rouse Company. BARCO is to provide a state-of-the-art digital display solution for its latest retail development, Fashion Show, in Las Vegas.

BARCO will deliver 400 square meters (4,300 square feet) of its renowned ILite and DLite indoor and outdoor display technology to The Rouse Company, which will install the dynamic advertising and entertainment displays at the new retail development. The Fashion Show complex will house retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Dillard’s, Robinsons- May, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. Specialty retailers such as Stefanel, Swarovski, Sharper Image and Coach will also make the new center their home. The expanded complex will feature a total of over 300 shops in nearly two million square feet of retail space when complete in 2003.

BARCO daylight displays are recognized in the advertising and events industries for outstanding picture quality, as well as the endless creative possibilities they offer. The gigantic displays will be used in one of the most unusual configurations seen in the world of advertising and corporate branding to date. The state-of-the-art retail venue will be adorned with a total of seven displays, which will be placed both inside and outside the building.

The four outdoor DLite 14 displays will be part of what will become one of the most spectacular sights on the famed Las Vegas “Strip.” The displays will be installed on a 166 meter (1,786 square foot) long curved rail system, located some 10 meters (108 square feet) above the main entry to the plaza.

The three indoor ILite 8 displays will be suspended from motorized hoists in the ceiling to create a backdrop for a never-ending barrage of fashion shows and other special events such as product introductions and brand showcases, to be presented in the large open-air atrium known as “The Great Hall.” The position of the three displays will be independently controlled so they will display their own independent images, or they can be joined together to provide a dramatic, panoramic effect. When not in use, the displays will retract neatly out of sight in the ceiling.

“In the world of high-profile branding it is of the ultimate importance to have your brand stand out from the pack. For the first time ever, these ultra-high resolution daylight displays offer us as clients a medium with unparalleled impact at the point of purchase, making our message so much more powerful,” stated Rita Brandin, Vice President & Development Director, The Rouse Company.

“BARCO’S daylight display systems offer a dynamic, eye-catching medium with endless creative possibilities, making it particularly suited to the world of advertising and entertainment. Our display solutions have attracted the attention of some of the world’s leading media companies – a sure sign that this new medium is changing the media landscape as we know it. BARCO is fast becoming a preferred alternative to the more traditional media used in the past,” stated Marco Bruines, Division Manager, Barco Media.

BARCO’s daylight displays can already be found in cities around the globe, used to promote brands such as Coca-Cola (London’s famous Piccadilly Circus), Merrill Lynch, Hollywood & Highland and Benetton (Japan).
