Barco Announces Major Contracts with Several Broadcast Television Facilities

California Video Center - US, NTL - France & UK, Alfacam - Belgium, Kosmos TV - Russia, Euskatel - Spain and Optus TV - Australia choose BARCO to supply large-screen display solution for improved signal monitoring

Kennesaw, GA – Barco, the world leader in large screen video and graphics display technology, announced that it has sold its iSTUDIO display solutions to California Video Center, a division of Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P., NTL, Alfacam, Kosmos TV, Euskatel and Optus TV. Barco introduced iSTUDIO at NAB 2000 as the monitoring solution for broadcast television facilities to control a large number of video, audio and any related computer data simultaneously. With world-wide recognition, Barco’s iSTUDIO has become one of the fastest growing products within Barco Control Rooms.

Barco combines a high-quality, rear-screen projection unit, a graphical controller, dynamic programmability and web-based operating software into one single module that displays a total of up to 30 video sources with audio, Closed Captioning, XDS, and AMOL. This was the decisive factor for Time Warner Entertainment Company’s California Video Center to invest in this multi-screen solution. The operators are no longer confined to the standard 9, 14, and 20-inch monitor sizes, they can size and move a virtual monitor anywhere they want on the display for maximum viewing and ergonomics. Engineers are able to expand the monitor wall without having to increase the number of displays as the business evolves. The operators now have a far better view of the actual broadcasting conditions and enjoy remarkable flexibility of dynamic switching between configurations, in a matter of seconds.

At California Video Center, the multi-channel master control room airs the WB Network and distributes programming for Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s syndication services. Building a control room that could instantly change roles from syndication distribution to a live network master control requires a dynamically changeable monitor wall.

“Our old control room didn’t allow us to grow, primarily because we could not monitor more than three video channels at a time. iSTUDIO allows us to meet our current need to feed five channels, to switch layouts from Syndication mode to Network mode with the press of a button, and still leave room for growth without rebuilding the room,” said Kevin Froning, Director of Engineering & Maintenance, CVC. “When compared to the other virtual monitor wall systems available, the iSTUDIO is superior in resolution and colorimetery.”
